Michael Berkeley's guest is the Scottish poet and guitarist Don Paterson, whose poetry collections, including Landing Light and Gods Gift to Women, have won several major awards. His eclectic musical passions range from a Bartok string quartet to jazz and folk-influenced pieces by Donal Lunny, Antonio Carlos Jobim and John Abercrombie.

A classic recording of Bach's concerto for two violins and strings is among the requests, played by father and son violinists David and Igor Oistrakh. Also in the programme, Ravel's Mother Goose Suite arranged for piano duet and percussion, featuring Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire. Plus a lesser-known work by Britten - his American Overture - played by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Simon Rattle.

Prom 3 Acts 1, 2, and 3

Presented by Sean Rafferty. Live from the Royal Albert Hall, a Proms performance of Purcell's The Fairy Queen, Acts 1-3.

Purcell's lavish semi-opera - a spectacular reworking of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream - was a huge success when it was premiered at the Dorset Garden Theatre in 1692, and contains some of the composer's most ethereal and sensual music. Oberon and Titania are the quarrelling King and Queen of the Fairies who inhabit a bizarre unfolding world of farce and wit.
