George Enescu (1881 - 1955)

2/5. And He Awakes the Music of Our Souls

From the turn of the century to 1914, Enescu was beginning to assume a central role in the musical life of Romania. When not touring internationally as a violinist or conducting in the capital Bucharest, Pele castle in the mountains of Sinaia was his refuge for composition.

Donald Macleod explores the influences revealed in Enescu's music at this point in his career.
