Although not looking for another conducting position, Mariss Jansons was unable to refuse when the Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra approached him. With a programme that plays to their strengths, he and the Dutch orchestra make their second appearance at this year's Proms, with Lutoslawski's folk-inspired orchestral showpiece and, after the interval, Brahms' hard-won first symphonic masterpiece.
