Sarah Walker
Sarah was born in Barnsley where her earliest enthusiasms were music, art, writing and making taped 'radio shows' for her friends. She studied music at Royal Holloway College and Reading University, where she specialised in performance. Since then she has worked as a broadcaster, pianist and teacher.

Sarah has a strong interest in contemporary music and in 1995 completed a PhD on the subject of English experimental music. Pursuing that interest, she has performed with many new music groups and has premiered lots of new material; her CD of the music of Hugh Shrapnel is out on the music now label.

Sarah has appeared on Radio 3, Radio 4, the World Service and BBC 4, presenting a wide range of programmes including Hear and Now, CD Review, The Music Machine, Afternoon Performance, Performance on 3, Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts and The Proms; along with James Jolly, she now presents Radio 3’s Classical Collection. Sarah has also produced books of original keyboard music for young players; four volumes for electronic keyboard are being followed by four more for piano.

Sarah’s musical tastes are extremely wide; she has worked in a piano duo with composer John White, exploring the more exotic reaches of the late Romantic repertoire including Alkan, Busoni, Grainger and Satie. She is also a fan of early English keyboard music and is the proud owner of a Morley clavichord, and currently plays jazz piano in Strode’s Big Band.
