UK's leading amateur orchestras
Tuesday 3 October 2006 19:30-21:30 (Radio 3)
Sarah Walker introduces performances that reflect the UK's thriving amateur music-making scene. There's a chance to hear some of the UK's leading amateur orchestras, from Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Southampton and Sheffield, playing music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Delius and a new work by Martin Suckling.
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, President of Making Music, talks about why amateur orchestras are so important, and Dermot Clinch continues his A-Z of the orchestra.
