Brian Ferneyhough's first opera recorded on its only visit to the UK at English National Opera. Dispensing with conventional action and characters, the work unfolds in a sequence of seven scenes, beginning with the suicide of the German philosopher Walter Benjamin. His writings on time, history and representation are woven into Charles Bernstein's dream-like libretto, to form a modern equivalent of the early 'intermedi'.
