Thomas Ades' The Tempest
From the Royal Opera House
Saturday 23 June 2007 18:30-20:45 (Radio 3)
Ades' operatic version of Shakespeare's play was a hit at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, when it was premiered in 2004. This year it returned to London with many of the same star singers who originally created the roles, including Simon Keenlyside as the sorcerer Prospero, Ian Bostridge as the misunderstood monster Caliban, and Cyndia Sieden as the airy spirit Ariel, singing one of the most stratospheric soprano parts ever written.
