George Gershwin's great American 'folk opera', a bittersweet love story, set in the Deep South, that remains a powerful and controversial mirror of America's evolving attitudes about race, culture and class. In this production by Washington National Opera, Wayne Marshall conducts a cast that includes Gordon Hawkins as Porgy, Indira Mahajan as Bess, Angela Simpson as Serena, Terry Cook as Crown and Jermaine Smith as Sportin' Life.
