Tin Hat - Listen Online

tin hat trio

Tin Hat were formed in 1997 by accordionist/pianist Rob Burger, violinist/vocalist Carla Kihlstedt and guitarist/dobro player Mark Orton. Between them they'd worked with a huge range of musicians from Tom Waits to John Zorn to Don Byron to Norah Jones. Mixing elements of folk, jazz, improv and classical music, the group drew in guest players like harpist Zeena Parkins and clarinettist Ben Goldberg to produce 'freewheeling chamber music for the 21st century'.

After Burger's departure in 2004, Kihlstedt and Orton settled on Goldberg as a replacement but have continued to add guest players to the mix wherever possible (and have removed the 'Trio' from their name to reflect their shifting numbers). For this concert (recorded at the Barbican for Late Junction) the line of Goldberg, Kihlstedt and Orton was augmented by Tom Waits sideman Ara Anderson on trumpets, keyboard instruments and glockenspiel.
