The programme will feature performances from Emma Kirkby, Piers Lane, the Brodsky Quartet as well as students and performers from Trinity College of Music. Performers Emma Kirkby has risen to prominence as one of the foremost early music sopranos in the UK both through her long standing association with the Consort of Musicke and newer associations with ensembles such as the Freiburger Barockorchester and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. To date she has made well over a hundred recordings of all kinds, most recently an anthology, "Classical Kirkby", devised and performed with Anthony Rooley. Piers Lane has a distinguished international career both as a solo pianist and as a chamber music player. Furthermore his repertoire of some 60 concertos has led to engagements with many of the world's great orchestras whilst other collaborations have included those with Canadian pianist Marc Andre Hamelin and British violinist Tasmin Little. In November 2004 he made his New York début playing the US première of Czerny's Variations on a Theme of Haydn. The Brodsky Quartet is a major player at the forefront of the international chamber-music scene, and has been performing and recording since 1972. The quartet has enjoyed working and performing with some of the world's most outstanding musicians including Dimitri Ashkenazy and Anne Sofie von Otter as well as with composers such as John Tavener, Lutoslawski and Peter Sculthorpe. |
