Anne McElvoy is one of the regular presenters of Radio 3's arts and ideas magazine, Night Waves . When not on the radio she is Executive Editor of the London Evening Standard. She edits features and comment at the paper and has a column which focuses on domestic and international politics.

Anne spent time as a student in Berlin and since then her books on Germany include The Saddled Cow: East Germany's Life & Legacy in 1992. She was co-author of the memoirs of the spymaster Markus Wolf, 'Man Without a Face'.

Elsewhere on the BBC you'll see Anne as a frequent guest on Newsnight and Question Time amongst other programmes.

She joined The Times as a graduate trainee in 1988 and became a foreign correspondent, reporting on the fall of the Berlin Wall, the unification of Germany and the break up of Yugoslavia. In 1992 Anne became the paper's bureau chief in Moscow.
