The Early Music Show

Andreas Scholl

Saturday 28 August 2004 13:00-14:00 (Radio 3)

From humble beginnings in his father's greengrocer's store near Wiesbaden, Andreas Scholl has become one of the most successful musicians of his generation. Blessed with a unique clarity of tone and an undeniable warmth, Scholl certainly deserves the accolades he has earned as one of the best countertenors on the early music circuit. Catherine Bott looks at his extraordinary career and chooses music from his recordings, including performances of lutesongs by John Dowland and Thomas Campion, as recorded at this year's Bath International Festival.
