And All That Jazz - Part Three

Saturday 20 August 2005 14:00-15:00 (Radio 3)

Charles Hazlewood concludes his exploration of the impact made by jazz and dance music in European music of the 1920s and 30s, with a profile of the English composer Constant Lambert, born in 1905. In the audience workshop, Charles is joined by pianist David Owen Norris and the BBC Concert Orchestra, for an exploration of two of Lambert's youthful piano works, the Elegiac Blues and the extraordinarily precocious Piano Concerto No 1, which he composed as an 18-year-old student. The programme also includes Lambert's arrangement of his friend William Walton's overture, Portsmouth Point.

This programme is available in the BBC Radio Player for 7 days only after broadcast.
