3. The composer Gabriel Faure was influenced through out his life by his friend and former teacher Camille Saint-Saens. It was Saint-Saens who encouraged Faure to keep applying, despite a couple of rejections, for a post at the Paris Conservatoire, of which Faure eventually became director. With Donald Macleod
