Gustav Holst (1874 - 1934)

Part Three

Wednesday 6 October 2004 12:00-13:00 (Radio 3)

Repeated: Wednesday 13 October 2004 0:00-1:00 (Radio 3)

Donald MacLeod looks at Gustav Holst's relationship with the village of Thaxted and we hear about what was probably the first performance of Saturn (from The Planets Suite). It took place during a harmony lesson at St Paul's Girls School in Hammersmith, where Holst taught for most of his adult life.
