Franz Liszt (1811 - 1886)

1. Paris

Monday 2 August 2004 12:00-13:00 (Radio 3)

Repeated: Monday 9 August 2004 0:00-1:00 (Radio 3)

The years between 1835 and 1839 have acquired the tag 'annees de pelerinage', after the two collections of piano music which were inspired by this itinerant episode in Franz Liszt's life. It's a period which contains the seeds of much of Liszt's future musical development. Over the next five days Donald Macleod explores the creative influences and the music linked to these years of travel.
