Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827)

Part Four

Thursday 12 August 2004 12:00-13:00 (Radio 3)

Repeated: Thursday 19 August 2004 0:00-1:00 (Radio 3)

Anyone who has studied the piano to a fairly advanced degree will have come upon the studies of Carl Czerny. Czerny became one of Vienna's most sought after teachers, numbering among his pupils Franz Liszt, Queen Victoria and Beethoven's nephew Karl. Czerny was passing on what he himself had learned from Beethoven. In this programme we hear about their relationship.

With Donald Macleod.
