Judith Weir (b 1954)

Part Three

Wednesday 9 June 2004 0:00-1:00 (Radio 3)

Judith Weir's instinct for the theatrical is seldom far from the surface of her music. Even when the music is entirely abstract, her evocative titles often suggest vivid images, and her enthusiasm for narrative is obvious.

Today she joins Donald Macleod to discuss this and other aspects of her work, including an evocation of a painting by Paul Klee, and a typically audacious Weir project - a 'Grand Opera' for a solo voice.
