In 1725 the collection we now know as the Four Seasons first appeared in print under the rather less snappy title of The Contest Between Harmony and Invention. Today Donald Macleod completes his series on Vivaldi, tracing the history of the most popular piece of classical music of our time, and enjoying some of the composer's less well-known, but equally fine works.
L'Inverno (Winter) from the Four Seasons, op 8 no 4, RV 297
