RADIO 3 PIANOTHON

Pianothon is back for 2009!

Following the huge success of last year's nationwide Pianothon event, BBC Radio 3 in conjunction with the Leeds International Piano Competition announces Pianothon 2009.

Hosted by Radio 3's Sarah Walker, the Pianothon is a non-competitive celebration of amateur piano-playing, to be held in The Clothworkers Concert Hall, University of Leeds on Saturday 12th September 2009.

Amateur pianists, of all abilities, are encouraged to apply to take part in the 2009 Leeds Pianothon. No matter your age, whether you play the simplest keyboard melody, a Transcendental Study by Liszt, or something in between, we would like to hear from you. All performances will be recorded and put on the Pianothon website - and some will even be broadcast on Radio 3, at a later date.

To apply please complete an Application form and read the rules and regulations. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 21st August.

University of Leeds With the Pianothon held on the same day as the Finals of the Leeds International Piano Competition, the 12th September 2009 looks set to be a red letter day for pianists and pianophiles. Pianothon host, Sarah Walker says:

Piano "Radio 3’s Pianothon is a wonderfully creative and inclusive way of celebrating the joy of making music at the piano. Linking Pianothon to this year’s Leeds International Piano Competition celebrates piano-playing right across the spectrum - from talented amateurs to top ranking professionals."
