The Toccata and Fugue Celebration - Sunday 18th December 2005

Tocatta and Fugue - organist

As part of 'A Bach Christmas', Radio 3 in partnership with the Royal College of Organists organised an ambitious nationwide celebration of the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

The celebration was on Sunday 18 December, launched on air at 9am by Rob Cowan. At 1.30pm, organist Wayne Marshall played the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, broadcast from St John's, Smith Square, London. The programme continued with a look into the origins of the Toccata and Fugue, with a version for solo violin played by Pavlo Beznosiuk.

Organists up and down the country played the Toccata and Fugue as part of their regular service on Sunday 18th (for example as part of their organ voluntary), or at a separate event on the same day.

Many used the performance of this piece as an opportunity to raise money for a charity of their choice.

Email us your photos and comments about the event, and we will publish a selection on the site.
