Artist Focus: Angela Hewitt (4/4)
Anglea Hewitt
This week's Artist Focus features the Canadian-born pianist, Angela Hewitt. Her recently completed eleven-year project to record all the major works of Bach has won her many plaudits, with the Times newspaper describing her as the "The pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time". Other passions include the music of Rameau, Couperin, Chabrier and Chopin who will all appear in this week's programmes. She has performed in recital around the world from North America and Europe to Japan and China and her frequent Wigmore Hall concerts in London sell out months in advance. In July 2005 Angela Hewitt launched her own Trasimeno Music Festival in the heart of Umbria in Italy which featured Hewitt as a recitalist, chamber musician, song accompanist and conductor, working with both estabished and young artists. In 2003 she was awarded the first ever BBC Radio 3 Listener's Award and in 2006 she was voted Artist of the Year at the the prestigious Gramophone Awards.
