Name:
Simon Newsham
Building:
Spitbank Fort
Location:
Portsmouth, a mile offshore
Why do you love this building?:
I look at it as I run along Southsea seafront, and it just gives me a sense of awe. It makes you realise just how serious the threat of invasion was in the nineteenth century (and also in the twentieth). Maybe 'Palmerston's Follies' were a real preventative force. It reminds me of an era when England really had power.
