Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney's Christmas single of 1979 is one of those songs that divides a musical nation. Like Paul's Ebony & Evory and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Wonderful Christmastime is one of those songs that is either loved or loathed, depending on how cheery you like your music.

Year of Release 1979
UK Chart Position 6
Appearing as Macca's first solo single since his 1971 hit Another Day, the song was released at a time when most people didn't realise that McCartney was in the stages of breaking up his band Wings and going solo. The band had released their last album 'Back To The Egg' in June of that year, but they were not officially disbanded until April 1981.

A month after the release of Wonderful Christmastime, Paul made the headlines for all the wrong reasons when he was arrested at Tokyo's Narita Airport for being in possession of half a pound of marijuana. He spent 10 days in a Japanese prison before being released and deported.

In recent years, the song has a gained a new life in the most unlikeliest of places. In 2001. Hip-Hop giants De La Soul sampled Wonderful Christmastime on their track Simply, which appeared on their album 'AOI: Bionix'.

A much underrated Christmas song from Paul.
