Fran Godfrey Biography
Fran Godfrey

Fran Godfrey is known to Radio 2 listeners for her news reading and regular chats with Terry Wogan on Wake Up To Wogan. She was born Frances Helen Godfrey in Hampstead, London on June 29 not so long ago.
In 1980, after several years working in London and Bournemouth as a secretary, Fran approached the independent local radio station in Bournemouth - 2CR. The interview resulted in Fran accepting a job as a Technical Operator. Fran became Assistant to the Commercial Producer - a job which involved creative writing and producing.

Two years later Fran moved on again - this time to presenting every sort of programme on the station including breakfast shows, the lunchtime show with guest interviews, live cookery in the radio kitchen, outside broadcasts, a humorous look back at the week, "a sort of Down Your Way type programme", and a late-evening show with nightly phone-ins.
When the programme policy changed to one of largely music, Fran looked for a new challenge which turned out to be BBC Radio 2. She joined the network in September 1990.
Fran's brothers are Tony and Nick. Fran is indebted to them both for their (still) endless and merciless teasing from a very early age which has helped prepare her for the merciless teasing that she now regularly receives from Mr Wogan.

But Fran's sweet tones have not gone unnoticed, as she was recently presented with the Michael Elliott Award for Voice of the Year 2003. An accolade presented for, 'A lady who has brought much joy, professionalism, charm and talent to Radio 2's most listened to show 'Wake Up to Wogan'. And so say all of us!
