Stars from the world of musical theatre take to the stage at The Mermaid in London to celebrate the 80th birthday of Broadway legend, Charles Strouse.
Charles Strouse is the composer of such gems as 'Applause', 'Bye Bye Birdie' and of course 'Annie'. Every one of his scores is alive with great songs and beautifully crafted melodies, all of them highly individual, including 'Welcome To The Theatre', 'Boom Chicka Boom', 'A Lot Of Living To Do', 'Kids', 'Put On A Happy Face', 'It's A Bird It's A Plane It's Superman', 'You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile', and 'Tomorrow'.
In this concert, host Ken Bruce introduces music from Charles Strouse's major works, performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Martin Yates, with musical stars of the West End - Bonnie Langford, Paul Nicholas, Rosemary Ashe, original West End Annie Jacinta Whyte, Daniel Boys, and the kids from the Sylvia Young Theatre School, plus a special guest appearance by Charles Strouse himself.
