Part of BBC Radio 2's commitment to nurturing new talent, the Young Folk Award is an annual search for the best budding folk musicians in the UK. The event is open to anyone aged between fifteen and twenty, performing as a band, duo or soloist and performing traditional and acoustic music with roots in any culture.
The semi-final
Successful applicants will be invited to take part in an exciting semi-final audition weekend, held from October 13-15 2006 in Stratford-Upon-Avon along with up to 40 other musicians and singers. They will spend the weekend meeting other
performers, attending workshops led by professional musicians and event organisers, and have time for socialising and sessions. Accommodation and food are provided free of charge and a contribution will be made towards semi-finalists' travel costs. Workshop tutors are Robert Harbron and Eliza Carthy. On Saturday evening there will be an audition concert open to the public featuring a short performance from each semi-finalist, from which the judging panel will choose acts to go through to the final.
The final
The final, in the form of a concert in London compered by Mike Harding, will be held on December 1 2006. Highlights of the concert will be broadcast as part of Mike's regular Wednesday night radio show.
The winning act will:
Record a session to be broadcast on BBC Radio 2's Mike Harding Show

Appear at Towersey Village Festival in 2007
