The show will be available on the Radio Player for 7 days after transmission. |
 |
Craig Leon presents a sonic evocation of the first twenty-odd years of garage punk, British invasion, Northwest rock, Motor City madness, trash rock and New York punk and their lasting influence on today's new wave of guitar bands.
"We'll play a shedload of earth-shakin' records which - along with the interviews and sharp presentation - will tell this story for the first time on UK radio (or maybe anywhere)."
Presenter, Craig Leon is the legendary producer of Blondie, Ramones and Suicide. Mr. Leon is currently #1 on the US Billboard classical charts with The Romance of the Violin by Joshua Bell - punk rock, indeed!
Programme One: 1956 - 1969 Louie Louie to The Stooges
This programme looks at The Louie Louie story, with versions by Richard Berry, the Kingsmen and the Sonics as told by Craig Leon, Nuggets compiler Lenny Kaye and Billy Miller of Norton records.
Also in the programme dizzbustin' rare 45s, outtakes and album cuts from Richard Berry and the Pharoahs, the Kingsmen, the Sonics, Them, the Troggs, the Yardbirds, Count 5, Link Cromwell, the Seeds, Chocolate Watchband, the Standells, MC5, the Stooges and other musical reprobates.
Programme Two: Includes Cyril Jordan of The Flamin' Groovies on San Francisco hippies, Kim Fowley and the Teenage Head album.
...and a ton of multicoloured vinyl from the Flamin' Groovies, the Stooges, New York Dolls, the Dictators, Rocket From the Tombs, the Cramps, Television, Patti Smith Group, Ramones, Blondie, Suicide, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and other disenfranchised streetpunks.
*NB! This is a revised repeat of "Punk Rock USA", which was originally planned for broadcast in March 2001, but due to the death of the Queen Mother only the first part was ever broadcast. |
