BIFF! BANG! POW! - THE STORY OF CREATION RECORDS
8th May, 21.00 - 22.00
Presented by Steve Lamacq

Oasis

"Creation is what it always has been - a label of misfits, drug addicts and no-hopers…"

Alan McGee may have been basking in the glow of the Oasis millions when his label issued a press release bearing those words, but his success was far from conventional.

Creation was started with a £1000 bank loan by punk fan McGee, and was initially run from his house as a vehicle for pursuing his own puritanical tastes. The label spent years seemingly teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, but still managed to release some of the finest albums of the 90s.

It progressed from tiny independent beginnings to become an icon of independent cool and rock and roll attitude, before being swallowed up by Sony, making millions from Oasis and finally dissolving after being deserted by its mercurial founder.

And although it was founded in 1983, its glory years perfectly mirrored the rise and fall of British rock music in the 90s, from the rave rock crossover of Screamadelica to the bloated folly of Oasis' Be Here Now.

Steve Lamacq, who knows a thing or two about indie music, tells a tale of sex, drugs and rock and roll for our time, featuring music from Creation bands including Primal Scream, Oasis, Super Furry Animals, Teenage Fanclub, My Bloody Valentine, Ride and The Jesus and Mary Chain. There are also interviews with all the major players in the Creation story, including Alan McGee himself.

Find out more about some of Creation's finest moments.
