Most people will know the Byrds' version of the Dylan song "Mr Tambourine Man" but few may realise to what extent the distinctive 12 string sound of this 60s band influenced so many who came after.
From Tom Petty to Velvet Crush, to country artists such as Emmylou Harris, folkies like Judy Collins and Ashley Hutchings of Fairport Convention, and almost the whole of British pop from the punks to the present day, the legacy of the Byrds remains strong.
Telling the story of the band and its legacy, the programme features contributions from Hugh Cornwell, Dave Davies, Diesel Park West, the High Llamas, Adam Seymour of the Pretenders, Ashley Hutchings of Fairport Convention, Judy Collins and Julie Felix, as well as biographer Johnny Rogan and Byrds members Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman and former manager Jim Dickson.
