Biography

Richard is passionate about radio. His first broadcasts were at university, the perfect distraction from his Honours degree in Law. After establishing himself at Capital Radio Richard could also be heard overseas on BBC World Service and BFBS and actually seen on VH-1.

Radio 2 then invited him along for the Sony Award-winning Late Show and the record-breaking Saturday afternoon sequence. Richard’s new Saturday and Sunday shows for Radio 2 alongside ‘Allinson’s Albums’ for BBC regional radio ensures he now enjoys very short weekends.

Away from the microphone Richard is Creative Director of Magnum Opus Broadcasting, dedicated to evolving fresh new programming. With the renowned record producer Steve Levine recent commissions include the critically-acclaimed ‘Third Reich n Roll’ with Stephen Fry, Phil Spector’s Christmas Gift For You with Amanda Holden and the much-admired Record Producers series for Radio 2 and BBC 6Music.

You will also be aware of their creative content if you spend time with Yamaha, Dorling Kindersley, EMI, the V&A Museum, Emirates and Apple.

Richard has a brace of Gold Sony awards, hosted the live awards webcast again this year and as a judge for the Ivor Novello awards, the Olivier theatre awards and the Sony Radio Academy awards finds very little time for messing about with boats, breathing new life into old cars, cooking, piano playing and tormenting his three sons. He still owns four turntables, far too much vinyl and a worrying number of shoes.
