Biography

In 1996 Pete was introduced to Geoff Lloyd and the two went on to offer their own brand of bizarre yet innovative humour to audiences across the North West.

Pete Mitchell currently presents Sunday mornings here on Radio 2.

Pete, renowned for his knowledge and eclectic taste in music, brings insightful interviews to his show which includes music guests from rock heroes to soul legends.

With an award-winning-career spanning nearly 20 years, Manchester born Pete began his career in 1988 as a cricket commentator for Lancashire's Red Rose Radio. He moved to Manchester's now legendary Piccadilly Radio in 1989 to indulge in his other great passion: music. When the station became Key 103, Pete presented breakfast and afternoon shows and developed, wrote and produced IQ, his own specialist weekend music programme.

In 1996 Pete was introduced to Geoff Lloyd and the two went on to offer their own brand of bizarre yet innovative humour to audiences across the North West. An interview with Noel Gallagher - at the height of Oasis mania - earned them their first Sony Award and they continued to delight their Manchester fan base until a call came from Virgin Radio in 1999.

For four years Pete and Geoff presented evenings and weekend breakfast. They won another Sony Award for an interview with Paul McCartney on their drive time show. In 2003 they moved to the breakfast show.

During his time at Virgin, Pete wrote, produced and presented the critically acclaimed 'Razor Cuts' featuring new bands, exclusive sessions and interviews with a diverse range of guests.

A love of alternative music, along with a passion for funk, soul and Motown has led to various appearances as a club DJ at venues including the legendary Hacienda in Manchester.

Pete has recently presented for BBC Radio 6 Music including stints on breakfast, mid-mornings and the Chart Show.
