I Am Woman - Helen Reddy

I Am Woman

Tuesday 11 March
2233 - 2330

Mariella Frostrup takes a look at Helen Reddy's classic hit I Am Woman, and explores how successful it has been as an expression of feminism.

She explains some of the tangled complexities of the women's movement, with particular emphasis on the entertainment industry.

Music business executives and artists including Spice Girl Mel C, K.D. Lang and Tracy Chapman share their experiences as women working in the record industry.

Mariella also examines the so-called First, Second and Third Waves of feminism – from it's early beginnings in the 19th Century, to the bra burning and radical feminism of the 1960s and 70s to the "Girl Power" devotees of the 1990s.

Contributors include: feminist writer Ariel Levy, Motown executive Shanti Das and porn star Savannah.
