QUEEN
Freddie Mercury was born to perform. Never has there been such a presence and such an energy. His four-octave range was second to none, his physicality was overwhelming and his power to hold an audience has rarely been recreated.
For some, Queen were purveyors of the theatrical avante garde – pushing the boundaries of popular music; for others, they created the signature tune for student party nights; but for most, they just wrote great music - from the beautifully crafted pop of We Are the Champions, to the wonderfully British wit of Fat Bottom Girls.
Bohemian Rhapsody has been voted best pop song of all time in endless chart run-downs, and its breathtaking mixture of opera, ballad and heavy metal has spanned decades.
Queen are one of the most successful bands of the last three decades with 18 number one singles and 18 number one albums worldwide, and they continue to thrive. Their new guise with Paul Rodgers in front is still pulling in the crowds, and the legacy that Mercury created will never die.
Vote for Queen for best British band of all time.

Mark Goodier says:
"I worked this last year on a documentary on Freddie Mercury for Radio 2 and what that reminded me, was not just of his remarkable talent…. but what a colossal act they were as a band and as songwriters at their peak. Their legacy is impressive and the most creative of their work is way up there as the Best Of British today."
Were Queen the greatest? Tell us why or why not!
