WORLD EXCLUSIVE: THE LIKES OF US
Premieres at the Mermaid Theatre, London for Radio 2
To be broadcast on Friday 21 October at 1930
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice (late 1960's)

The world premiere public performance of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1965 musical.

Radio 2 presents the world premiere of the first musical collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Coinciding with the centenary of his death, 'The Likes Of Us' is the story of the life of Dr Thomas Barnardo, a man who was evangelical, entrepreneurial and philanthropic, and whose crusade to rescue children living on the streets became world renowned. Although the musical was written in 1965 it has never been performed to the public until now.

In a concert recorded at the Mermaid Theatre in London, the BBC Concert Orchestra is joined by a star studded cast, headed by Stephen Fry as the narrator under the direction of Simon Lee. Introduced by Paul Gambaccini.
