Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year 2011

Radio 2's Young Choristers of 2010 - Liam Jones and Ella Taylor

The eight finalists of the Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year 2011 have been announced.

  • The Radio 2 Young Chorister Of The Year final will take place on Monday 24 October at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London.

It will be hosted by Aled Jones and be broadcast on Radio 2 on Sunday 6 November.

One girl and one boy will each be awarded the title BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year 2011.

    The finalists are:

    • Ella Rainbird-Earley, who sings at Coventry Cathedral
    • Helen Lacey, who sings at St Mary's Church, Lamberhurst, Kent
    • Katie May Allen who sings at Christ Church, Southgate
    • Alexis Cooling who sings at Wakefield Cathedral

      • Laurence Stannard, who sings at Coventry Cathedral and is also a member of the Coventry Blue Coat School Choir
      • Peter Waters, who is a Quirister at Winchester College
      • Richard Decker, who sings at The Queen's Chapel of the Savoy
      • Donal McCann, who sings at St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast

The winners, a boy and a girl, will receive a trophy and lessons with an established singing coach. There will also normally be opportunities for them to appear on worship programmes both on national radio and television during the year.

Last year Ella Taylor and Liam Jones beat young hopefuls competing to become BBC Radio 2's Young Choristers of the Year 2010.

Now Radio 2 is looking for the successors to their title, to affirm and encourage the contribution young people make to choirs and music groups in places of worship across the United Kingdom.
