Many wannabes have stepped out on the Euro stage over the last fifty years. We've condensed the highlights, the tears and the tantrums into this must-read guide to the history of Eurovision.
The 1950s - The dawn of Eurovision, and an era when the girls wore the dresses & the boys kept score (on a big scoreboard which looked like it was made on Blue Peter).
The 1960s - During the swinging sixties the Brits won twice and came second six times. Good old Sandie Shaw took a place in British hearts forever with her Puppet on a String.
The 1970s - Some say that the 80s was the decade of bad taste, but we disagree. In the 70s came Abba (in their shimmering silk blouses) and a young and dashing Wogan!
The 1980s - Norway complete the nul points hat trick and Bucks Fizz rip off their skirts to 'Making Your Mind Up' which sits atop the UK chart for three weeks in 1981.
The 1990s - Ireland win four times and people start to question if this should be the Irishvision Song Contest. Dana International stuns everyone with her winning style.
The 2000s - The blight of the noughties brings no prizes for the Brits and the horror of a nul points score in 2003. But hope is not lost and the only way is up... come on Daz, bring it home in 2006!
