IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING

I've always loved the 60s/Motown sound. Catchy chorus and I'm particularly fond of the maracas here. Cool. Antony has a good voice, is a nice looking chap and I'm pretty sure he can hack it live too after his years in Blue. Most viewers will recognise him and no doubt like the song as it's very "feel-good-sing-a-long-ish". A safe bet for Athens !

ALL ABOUT YOU

A milder version of Kelly Clarkson meets a country version of Tatu's "All About Us". Good-looking girls but can they sing live? We don't want another Jemini-moment now, do we?! Nice enough, but lacks that extra oomph to be a winner. Too repetitive (hey, where's the traditional key-change?) and you lose interest after a while.

TEENAGE LIFE

Get rid of those helium-kids from the cast of Oliver will you! What? They're not children? Then this is even weirder! Otherwise, it has a catchy chorus and the production is good. Not sure about the lyrics but hey it's Eurovision after all - home of Diggiloo, Ding-A-Dong and Boom Bang-A-Bang. Nice addition with rap though. Could do well but also fall flat depending on the performance and who tunes in on May 20.

HAND ON MY HEART

You don't get any extra points for harmonising in Eurovision you know. Or wailing for that matter, which to me is all they do. This could have been a contender in 1996, but not in 2006 with televoting. It's an OK radio song but it wouldn't even get close to the top 10 in Eurovision. Too bland I'm afraid. More like an Irish entry from 5 years ago.

PLAY YOUR GAME

Modern beat! It reminds me of a cross between Mojo's "Lady" and Alcazar. I would definitely dance like crazy to this on the dance floor. Dance music hasn't made it to Eurovision yet (unless you count Gina G?) so the UK could be pioneers here. Would it work? No idea, but at least you would be sending a modern entry to be proud of!

WHISPER TO ME

I absolutely loved "Cry" a few years back. This isn't as instant but still a very good song. A perfect radio hit. The Finnish Pop Idol winner Hanna Pakarinen would kill for the song. It's not a Eurovision winner, but a quality song with a life after the contest. With new arrangements in the chorus (more drums, guitars, you name it) and a bombastic grand final it could be in for a chance.

NINA'S BIOG

Birthplace - Sweden
Background - Nina Andrén, 24 years old. Born and raised in Sweden, Now living in Helsinki, Finland. Studying journalism at Helsinki University. Has worked as a press reporter at every Eurovision since 2000.

First memory of Eurovision - First memory of watching Eurovision is when Bobbysocks won in 1985, I was 3½ years old at the time and I remember it so well. When Carola won in 1991 was a very special moment for me as a Swede and then of course Eurovision 2000 in Stockholm which was the first one I attended and saw live in the hall.

Some favourite songs - I'm a sucker for big French ballads, a lot of the Italian entries through the years and the happy-clappy camp numbers from Scandinavia during the 80s. In recent years: I LOVED Wig Wam's "In My Dreams" (Norway) from last year.

I thought it was brilliant with a touch of glam rock in Eurovision! "Je n'ai que mon âme" (France 01), "Rapsiodia" (Italy 92) are other favourites. In "real life" my favourite singer is the only and only Dusty Springfield!

Favourite Memories - What I loved about Eurovision as a child was the whole atmosphere. The languages, the spectacular performances, the clothes, the voting and being allowed to stay up late with the whole family and eat crisps and have fun. It was like Christmas for me.

And I would always cheer for Sweden no matter what. The joy I felt when Carola won!! The following year I didn't rate Sweden's entry at all and found other favourites and since then I haven't been very nationalistic. I only want the best song to win.

But I won't lie and say I like all the songs in the contest. Many of them are really crappy but every year there are a few brilliant entries that I would probably never have heard if it wasn't for Eurovision. I don't take the contest too seriously, it's not like if I eat, breathe and live for Eurovision all year around but it would be a little duller world without it.
