What's your ultimate year for UK Eurovision?

Do you have an all time favourite UK contestant?  Do you think Cliff Richard was the greatest of them all, are you disappointed with our recent form?  Will we di ti this time?  Let us know.

            Barbara, Tamworth
Frances Rufelle was my favourite. Cool performer and cool song. I think it would have done better but the song was slightly altered before her Eurovision performance and didn't sound as good. This year it has to be Daz for novelty or Antony Costa for his fame.

            Stephen, London
My all time UK favourite is Sweet Dreams - "I'm Never Giving Up" (1983). Perfect euro-cheese. We've sent such bad songs lately, no wonder our scores are awful. Judging my this year's MYMU selection we're destined for the bottom 5 again. :-(

            Nigel, Exeter
It has to be Michael Ball, with Jessica Garlick second. We dont have a chance because of too mant countries and too political. Wish we had the preview programmes that used to be shown with all the entries before the contest then we know whtat we are up against, come on BBC how about it?

            Julie, Crewe
One of my favourite UK entries was Nikki French - a great singer, and (i thought) a great song. Could never undserstand why it fared so poorly, she was brilliant on the night. I also remember well the year that Scott Fitzgerald was robbed by Celine Dion - surely the most unluckiest UK loser ever. Other favourites for me are Prima Donna, Precious and of course Sir Clff!! Julie xx

            Andrew, Edinburgh
Imaani was my favourite UK entry. It was a groovy, up tempo song, excellent stage performance with good costume. She deserved her placing.

            Edd, Wales
Its got to be Imaani - Where Are You? What a great song and she came second to Dana International in 1998. It was a smooth contemporary song and deserved to win.

            Chris and Leigh, Bradford
Leigh: I agree let Nicki French do it again but this time wear more age appropriate clothes. Chris: I thought Frances Ruffelle has never been given the respect she deserves. Lonely symphony was a badly over-looked entry and her nerves got to her.

            Steven, Manchester
Lindsay Dracass was by far the best UK entrant ever. She was young and trendy with a good dance track, not like the old fuddy duddies in long glittery frocks singing ballads. She looked fantastic too. She put Sheffield on the Euro-map well before The Arctic Monkeys, who are probably her mates now.

            Peter, Cornwall
This year I think somebody like Anthony Costa should enter. His Song is so good. They say Blue were succesful in Europe. Hardly. They were really popular in italy, who don't enter, and they had some minor success's in France, who are reknown for giving us low marks. There is no way that we would win unless we had a girl up there singing an upbeat song. I thought Javine might, but when she got her throat infection, her performance on the night was dreadful! Also about the politicalness, there is really noway you can stop it, unless you make the singers go on unknown, however then you wouldn't be able to have a national final. And we always say that other countries are political, Uk and Ireland have been awarding loads to each other!

            Peter, Cornwall
I think that Katrina and The Waves were great for winning so far, but Brotherhood of man are good. They were 'The British Abba', however they didn't take off like Abba. Although 'Save all Your Kisses For Me' is the most sold Eurovision song by the Original Artist in the Original Format. Take That Sweden! In the Congratulations Eurovision Show, Brotherhood of Man would have gained more then the 5th best Eurovision song of all time, If BBC had decided to show it. However they didn't and we got 5th. But out of hundreds of songs, I think 5th is good :).

            David , Ireland
For me it has to be Katrina and the Waves. The song, performance and setting was outstanding. I remember watching it in my grandparents home. The song was bewildering, magical and enchanting for all ages. Dublin 1997, that did it for me. Well done United Kingdom, well done.

            James - Southend in Essex
Despite our recent performance in Eurovision I think the Uk is slowly picking up the fun ESC vibe at last. MYMU will never be as big as Sweden's Melodifestivalen but its absolutely great to see a performance from such great stars as Sertab Erena and Ruslana ! Well done BBC, keep it up! Oh, my favourite Uk entrant ? Honestly honestly I loved Jemini ! The losers from 2003. Kali Nichta Europa !

            Andrew, Manchester
Favourite has to be Frances Rufelle, but think this year the choice of songs seem very poor. City Chix are the best - perhaps we should have gone for Kandy Floss?

            Sarah,Telford
Loved the entries that we sent in 1992 and 1993(Michael Ball and Sonia) and also liked Frances Ruffelle in 1994 even though she only came 10th which, going on the Uk's recent record, is a good position. I think the BBc should go back to doing an internal selection, as we used to do so much better with that and it is noticeable that internal selection has proved successful for the last 3 winners(Greece 2005, Ukraine 2004 and Turkey 2003)

            Carles from Spain
I think the best singer this year for UK is Anthony Costa, but I think he won't win the Eurovision. For me the best song of Eurovision has been Katrina and the Waves "Love shine a light" in 1997

            Mark, London
No-one can rival the gutsy performance of Kathy Kirby with her fantastic song 'I Belong' in 1965. It's a real Eurovision belter!

            Chris Lord, Warrington
I love the 2002 song Come Back by Jessica Garlick, that song was amazing and she did us proud that night. Also Javine last year was excellent and deserved a higher finishing then what she got. Eurovision is all now to do with polotics! it is a shambles. Everyone hates the UK and thats why we will never get close to winning anymore. I wonder what kind of finish the UK would get if the likes of Take That or Sugababes were to represent us! that would be interesting! 2006 is OUR YEAR: 2007: LONDON will host the Eurovision!

            Peter de Meteor. Hotwells, Bristol.
I don't understand why, for many years we have failed to enter established artistes. Is it because we don't want to win? My favourite? . . . Mary Hopkin in 1970

            Brett, Peterbrough
Best year has to be 1993,Really good contest and what a nail bite finish! Sonia was robbed! cracking song, cracking singer!

            Paul Drew - London
Nicki French was by far our best performer for years! Bring her back in 2007 to represent the UK - Give her 10 songs to sing and let the public decide! She wants to do Eurovision again and im sure she will win given another chance!

            Gary Brown - Hitchin
Rock Bottom has always been a favourite with me. Gina G should have won by a mile. I cannot see the UK winning again whatever we submit. I enjoyed the days of 18 countries taking part in just one contest - I use to love the voting but it has become a total bore for me in the last few years. It is still a great show though!!

            Jacquie from Devizes Wiltshire
I have watched the competition almost every year since 1956. It used to be a very entertaining event, but has become a trial to watch. So many countries, so much political marking, making a mochery and ignoring what the competition is really all about! A great shame. In this day an age all countries should sing in English - and as for the British entry over the last decade -Why do we have such dreadfully boring songs representing us. Just you consider how many songs make it to No 1 in the UK and even further afield during the course of a year - why can't we have one of those? Unless the song is really good - we'll never get in final five again, mostly because there isn't a country in Europe - if you can call it Europe - that likes us.

            Lester, High Wycombe
It's staggering to notice that the UK only had two songs outside the top 10 in the first 40 years, and 6 outside in the last 7 years.

            Mark from Northumberland
Bucks Fizz have to be our greatest night of Eurovision they also went on to have numerous hits. ( Wonder what they are doing now?).Also have fond memories of the night Brotherhood of Man won.

            Ed from UK
Antony Costa has the best song and voice in this year's MYMU. He is the one who should be chosen to represent UK this year. He is better than all the other contestants and if he doesn't win this year's MYMU, it will be an enormous shame as it would wreck UK's chances of achieving a great result in Athens, which is what they desperately need to make up for the disappointing results we have seen in the last few years. I love Antony's song. It is just fantastic and a real winner! I hope that his performance is excellent and strong enough to win the viewer's votes. I would love to see UK win this year represented by Antony because they deserve it and its been a long time since they last took home the trophy. Seeing UK win this year then host next year's eurovision song contest would really be a dream come true. They would do an outstanding job hosting the contest as they have done in the past. Come on UK! Its time to get seroius and win! London 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

            Steve - West Yorkshire
1997 was the best year ever for the UK when Katrina and the Waves won with 'Love Shine a Light'. Gaining 1st place with a massive 227 points, no other country has ever come anywhere near that total winning score. The second placed song was 70 points behind the UK !! Will we ever achieve such a win ever again?

            jamie, dundee
would love to see a big style song for europe contest like they have in sweden etc. i remember in the past when it was held at the royal albert hall with 12 finalists competing with each other. That was the year brotherhood of man won, and it also gave us co-co in 2nd and tony christie( him of amarillo fame) in 3rd. loved imani's song where are you, in birmingham. should have won. dont reckon much to this years entries yet again. come on bbc

            lydia sleegers the netherlands
sir cliff richard is the greatest of them all!! he sold the most eurovision records of all time!!! he is simply the best!!! lydia sleegers

            Damian, Brighton
It's not going too well for the UK at the moment, is it? And just think of the fuss we created in 1987 when Rikki set a new record by finishing only 13th! Looking at the UK's recent form, if that were to happen nowadays it would be considered an acheivement, rather than a disaster. "Only the Light" is my favourite UK entry anyway.

            Elisabeth from France
i think that Antony Costa will represent UK this year. He's my favorite.

            Jethro Offemaria, Welwyn Garden City
Michael Ball and of course, Love City Groove!!!

            David, London
Looks as though the BBC just can't be bothered with this since 2000 given our poor form. Why don't they organise a proper contest for selecting the entry rather than forcing 6 poor songs on us to choose from?

            Louisa Ayrshire
I remember quite a few of the entries and the 2 most that stick out is Bucks fizz and Katrina and the waves mainly because we really wanted to see Boyzone performing at half time!

            Andrew Jeffs, Birmingham
My all time favourite Eurovision entry for the United Kingdom has to be between 2 of the less well performing UK entries. They are Co-Co - The Bad Old Days & Javine - Touch My Fire

            Shane Hamblin, Tidworth
2002, was a great year, for Eurovision! Jessica Garlick was great and I hope that she competes for us again! 'Come Back' should have won the competition! Javine's 'Touch My Fire' deserved better too! She came 22nd! She deserved 10th at least. If we had Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Malta all around us we'd do well too. But unfortunately we don't! We have Ireland.

            Reece Porter - Florida
Cliff was my favorite. However...the contest has unfortunately become political and for that reason the UK will not win again for many years to come! A. TOG

            Debbie, London
I live for Eurovision! It's the greatest thing ever since sliced bread and I'm very pleased that this lot tried as hard as they did to win for us! Bring it on!

            Alan, Gateshead
Bucks Fizz winning Eurovision!!!... the best Eurovision band ever!!!.. I was never an Abba fan - But have loved Bucks Fizz from the start. Great Albums and Live shows too.... Here's hoping for a 25th anv Bucks Fizz show!!!
