Video on WAP - Frequently asked questions
How can I watch video on my mobile?
You will need a video compatible mobile device and media player to watch our video content. You must also have your SIM card activated to receive data via GPRS and WAP. For more information, contact your mobile operator.
Which formats do you support?
For this service we support 3GP, Real Media and Windows Media file formats.
How long will it take to download?
It depends on your data connection speed; generally you should be able to download the clip within 1 - 2 minutes.
How do I play a video?
Simply select the appropriate link, once downloaded, it will automatically play in your media player. If it does not play, go to the folder where it was saved and play the file. Remember if you have a lot of text messages, images or video you may run out of memory, if this happens please delete some of your files to create more free space.
Can I improve the sound quality?
Typically, mobile phones with in-built speakers offer poor sound quality. For improved user experience and to help reduce noise pollution we recommend that you use a headset.
Why can't I get a connection to the content?
Please ensure that:
- Data services are enabled on your SIM card
- You have obtained a WAP and Internet Access point (IAP) from your mobile operator and these details have been entered into your device settings
- The correct settings have been entered into your media player.
How much will it cost?
The BBC does not charge you or your network operator to watch the video. However, your operator will charge you for the amount of data you download. We advise you to contact them to establish how much the data is likely to cost.
If you are a 'Pay as You Go' customer, your network operator may charge up to £1.50 to download one minute of video. Contract charges will be lower, approximately 22-25p per minute. Please ensure you fully understand your payment plan before using this service.
