Javine Interview
Tuesday April 26

Javine was back in the country briefly this week, and we managed to snatch some time with her to talk about the whole Eurovision experience...

How did you get involved with Eurovision?
My agent suggested it. I wasn't sure about it, but at this point at my career the doors are all closed. I needed the exposure and to create an opportunity for myself and I think that it's been a good decision so far.

Following in the steps of Cliff Richard, Lulu and Bucks Fizz must feel pretty good?
Yes. I think it's all about the impact of the song and how you perform on the night.

Do you normally watch the show?
I've never been a Eurovision fan, and it's so odd to be doing it this year. I have memories of it from being a kid but this year it seems like it is more interesting. With Jordan being in the running it has made it younger and fresher.

How did you feel about going up against Jordan?
I thought she had it in the bag. There was nothing about me being intimidated but I thought she would come in and take it from everyone. And not being about the music, I thought that was bad.

Did you rate her performance?
She's not a great singer. She called me a bitch and silly cow but that's just how she does business. Before this I liked her and I thought 'you go girl' but now… I don't hate her. I dislike her. She isn't very clever.

Javine in her video We love the new video!
Thanks. It was shot in London Bridge under the arches and it was disgusting! Sewer water was dripping all down the walls and it was very cold and grubby.

Did you know that the bookies have 2:1 odds that you'll pop out of your dress again? What frock precautions are you taking in Kiev?
How does that work? [We explain how betting odds work] Wow! I could get my mum to put a bet on! It won't happen this time because the new dress won't be like that one. The designer, Luke Hall, was recommended to us because he was doing lots of work for Kylie's tour.

Were you nervous about the dress before you performed?
I didn't feel uncomfortable. I just went for it and the inevitable happened, but at the time I didn't even realise. I saw the papers the next day and I was mortified.

You were papped in heat magazine this week too…
I saw those pictures in the papers the other day. They are becoming obsessed by my body!

How do you rate the other Eurovision entries?
I have seen Greek entry and heard the Cypriot song. When I got to Greece they were showing all the entries. They are big on Eurovision over there. The Greek girl is a good performer and she has a good song, but mine is better!

Of course! You're going to Ukraine next week on promotion. What do you know about the country?
I know that chicken kievs come from there. It's gonna be exciting but I wouldn't chose to go there ordinarily if it wasn't for Eurovision.

You seem to have good relationship with John Themis, your co-writer of 'Touch My Fire', why do you get on so well?
He's taken to me since we met a year ago. He's been really into me and wants to see me do well. He's very father-like to me and it's great to have him on board. He's given me lots of confidence.

Eurovision is famous for it's fiercesomely knowledgeable fans, have you met any yet?
Gosh not yet. But I have noticed that the guys in the gay clubs go beserk! They used to be good audiences but now they are even better. They live for the glamour!

Have you heard about the tent city being put up in Kiev?
No...

They are putting up tents to house all the visitors. We hear the UK delegation don't have hotel rooms at the moment. How good are you at putting up a tent?
My hotel is booked! I am respresenting my country so I should think I can stay in the hotel...

Would you give up your room for Terry Wogan?
No way - I need my beauty sleep.
And finally, who will be traveling to Kiev with you? Any family or friends?
My mum and sister. They're my support.

Good luck!
