THE SHOW
In 2005 Tim Minchin won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, and now Radio 2 listeners get to hear what all the fuss is about with Tim's first concert for the BBC. This concert was first broadcast on Radio 2 in January 2007.

As well as performing solo at the Yamaha Baby Grand, he forms an impromptu jazz trio with the 'Tim Minchin swinging duo of musicalness', duets with the critically acclaimed singer songwriter Lucie Silvas, and raps with US sensation Reggie Watts.

There are also interruptions and educational asides as he's joined by the Perrier nominated children's entertainer Mr Jeremy Lion (Justin Edwards).

Tim's songs cover the spectrum of emotions and deal with such subject matter as: love of an inflatable woman (Inflatable You), the climate change debate (Canvas Bags), and he looks back at the events of 2006 with the lament 'What Was 06 For'.

"A year is like an elephant
You're not allowed to take it home
It's just another year flown
It's just another year blown"

Tim Minchin and Friends is an hour of virtuoso musicianship packed with funny ideas, and turn of the year sentiment.

    ABOUT TIM MINCHIN

Tim Minchin's brand of dark comedic cabaret has received increasing critical and public acclaim in the last two years. His show 'Dark Side' won the 2005 Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Festival Directors’ Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and was featured at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival in July 2006.

His most recent show, 'So Rock', was nominated for Most Outstanding Show at the MICF and received universally rave reviews.

He has appeared live in the UK at the Soho Theatre and the Lyric Theatre, and at the 'Tickled Pink' breast cancer fundraiser at the Royal Albert Hall. He has also appeared on British television and radio, and on Paramount Comedy’s 'The World Stands Up'.

In Australia in 2003 Tim's first show, Navel, received Green Room Award nominations for Most Innovative Use of Form and Most Outstanding Songwriter. The following year his second effort, Perineum Millennium, received Green Room Award Nominations for Best Cabaret Artist and Most Outstanding Songwriter.

He was a Raw Comedy Victorian state finalist in 2004.

What the press says about Tim:
"He plays like an angel, sings like the rock star he always wanted to be and has a devil sense of humour." (The Scotsman)

"Take out a second mortgage, sell the car, and put the money on the safest bet you'll ever make in this uncertain world; that Tim Minchin will be the next big thing in musical comedy." (Time Out)

"...an immensely talented musician... a bright, quirky and hugely entertaining comedian. It’s the sort of all-round package of genius that could drive other comics furious with envy... Impeccable stuff." (Chortle)

"Articulate, thoughtful, dry and unashamedly polysyllabic... Dark, irreverent and talented... Excellent, provoking, funny." (The Age)
