i love booker t's 60's soul stuff ... but for some reason he chose to be backed by a very loud what could only be called "rock" band ..i was very disappointed

Well...they were certainly a meaty band!

I enjoyed it immensely, I also saw Mark Ford (he's the denim-clad guitarist with the black guitar) who is the brother of one of my guitar heroes, Robben Ford!

The band traded licks off each other superbly; it was a steamy mix of soul, blues and rock.

Remember that Booker T's soul hits were recorded in the relatively genteel times of the early 60s and some of them were quick takes in 'dead' session time inbetween sessions with the Stax soul greats...

I guess Booker wanted to put more meat onto his music nowadays and his new 'Potato Hole' album is pretty heavy - but truly funky.

      What a legend!

Booker T and his "rock" band were fantastic, they were exactly what was needed to shake the cobwebs off the living dead that had attached themselves with their rucksacks, blankets and flasks to the barrier!
Marc Ford had every Steve Cropper lick nailed.

lots of people seemed to enjoy the "rock" set ... but i just do not definately never ever ever like loud rock music .. Hence why to travel to "folk" festivals ,i also hated that Susan Tedwatsit woman on Friday with her Bonnie Raitt rip off vocals and her Jimi Hendrix guitar impersonations i thought she was awful ...it was like getting your teeth drilled , only slightly more discomforting !! ...i think the festival should first and foremost do what it says on the label and if people dont like it theres plenty of "rock" festivals to go to !!!.. and before you ask , no i wasnt glued to the barrier or in a picnic chair or sitting on a blanket and i was not wearing an aaron cardy and i definately didnt have my finger shoved in my ear ,and i am not one half of Mullican and O'Hare ( although i do own a few bri nylon polo neck sweaters )and my surname is not Waterson ... i just like traditional / folk music

Gee Bern, Cambridge has been eclectic and broad since whenever!

You'll see, just f'rinstance, Richard Thompson playing the finest acoustic guitar with classic self-penned solo or traditional songs some year, another year he'll power through a hot band set and beat up any electric guitarist on the planet!

Latin, Americana, blues - amplified or not (and ummm...Los Lobos played some traditional Mexican folk tunes!) - it's all 'traditional' music; and most of the genres feed off each other these days.

It don't make it bad or obnoxious, just 'cos it's not to your own taste....but I'm glad you found stuff that made your weekend fun, too :)

Cambridge is so much nicer than most rock festivals, I'll gladly take the whole mixture!

A wonderful festival with a lovely atmosphere. A wide spectrum of music to satisfy and broaden all tastes. In these days of over-regulation it was great to meet and savour the feeling created from being surrounded by largely genuine, happy and friendly people. People who were able to forget the stresses of everyday life for a few days and celebrate the joy of life and meeting others. Just occasional hints of those who seek to elevate themselves by criticising others and believing that they know best; perhaps 'badfolkbeard' should take a closer look at his attitudes.

The only band that didn't fit in to the Cambridge interpretation of folk were the Zutons! For some bizarre reason they were allowed to headline.
