Sex Night

From 7pm on Sunday 31 July BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra presents Sex Night. As part of the Summer Surgery, we take over both stations for the whole evening and discuss all things sex. Sex Night will be a realistic guide to sex for young adults based around real life examples.

It'll be 5 hours of sex from 7-11pm. The show will feature a relevant modern panel of hosts, anchored by The Surgery's Aled Jones.

And here's the really fun bit. We'll be running the whole night in front of a live studio audience as we take the show out of the studio to a location in London Soho.

If you didn't get tickets to be in our live audience, there are still lots of ways to get involved. We will be hosting a live chat during the show on facebook, and anyone can join the conversation on twitter by following @bbcr1 and using the #r1sexnight hashtag.

The stories, scenarios and questions from the audience will allow us to talk through a variety of issues around sex for young adults including sexual health, contraception, emotions, myths and losing your virginity.

Schedule for Sex Night

You'll hear from the likes of Emile Sande, Wretch 32, Beth Ditto, True Tiger, Pixie Lott, Ke$ha, Chase & Status, Labrinth, Ms Dynamite and more. From 8 - 11pm "Sex Night" will be broadcasting live from Soho in front of the R1 / 1Xtra audience. Aled Jones & Gemma will be hosting a three hour special with a celebrity guest panel to steer us through the tricky world of sex. We'll have real stories, quizzes, discussions, debate and your chance to talk about anything to do with sex but were too embarrassed to ask. No stone unturned, we will be looking at before, during and after - everything on sex for young adults including sexual health, contraception, losing your virginity, emotions, masturbation and busting sex myths.

Then at 11pm it's "S&M: The Story of Sex & Music"- a penetrating look at why Sex is the primal force behind pop music. Annie Mac guides us through some of the most explicit and raunchy music to be released in the last 40 years - with contributions from Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon, Kate Perry, Skepta, Lilly Allen and of course Hip Hop Big Dawg Tim Westwood.

BBC Three

BBC Three will be involved in Sex Night too. Ex-Hollyoaks star Nathalie Emannuel is currently making a documentary all about "websex". She'll reveal what she's found out about chat rooms, web cams and "sexting". Natalie's been talking to Professor Andy Phippen, who is carrying out new research in to how people are now using the internet to interact sexually. A lot of the focus of academic research recently has been on younger teens and children and their use of the internet.
