Complain about this comment
Same question as Rory really, Please can we have it as podcast after.
Complain about this comment
Please do not describe this as 'Classical Music'. Not only is it low grade minimalist tripe, but it would be better being played as background sounds such as lift situations or dentists waiting rooms rather than using a very professional orchestra such as the BBC Phil to 'play' it.

Sooo can't wait... It's going to be outstanding..!!!

Right on David. Dubyawn indeed. Nondescript, unimaginative, devoid of creativity. Pseudo chamber music by geezers used to having a computer do it all for them. Composing Tools in Sibelius anyone? Bravo BBC, promoting mediocrity in the arts once again.

so what time is it on?

David,
making judgement before you've heard the music!
An aside, please tell theDJ's that Salford is pronounced like Solford, not Saalford.

Radio 1 returns to the days of ground-breaking live sets. This is awesome!
Complain about this comment
This is epic - a real meeting of genres - bi-focal education!!!
Complain about this comment
What is "David" even doing on the message board? Don't like it? Go listen to classic FM (other classic channels are available)
The only way music will go forward is by a melding of styles...
Kudos to both parties here for pushing the boundaries
Complain about this comment
omg when the vocals came in at the end i turned cold with goosebumps lol

Was good but not really dubstep more the bbc philharmonic feat. nero, could have done soooooo much more!!!! dissapointing!
Complain about this comment
constantly billed as being able to watch world-wide, once again disappointed
Complain about this comment
Absolutely amazing!!!
The Philharmonic orchestra was breathtaking, but have to say more it was more 'Dub' than the 'step'.
The drum department was lacking a bit, but still AMAZING!!!
Complain about this comment
thought it was brill nice colab boys
Complain about this comment
Wow, that really was something special!
Complain about this comment
That was amazing!!!
Complain about this comment
just totally awesome love nero, love dub but also love classical and am a cellist, massive respect, was amazing.
Complain about this comment
Well, it's inevitable that some purists/fans from both sides ('classical' & dubstep) aren't going to be open-minded enough to accept it.
I reckon it's the way forward! With stuff like this and the Daft Punk's 'Tron' soundtrack, orchestras should collaborate with electronic artists more often...
Complain about this comment
David just read your comment, ha didn't Nero prove you wrong! AWKWARD!!!!!!!!!
Complain about this comment
omg im loveing this dubstep radio one u are the best keep it comeing, any tunes u would recommend me downloading need more on me ipod haha xx
Complain about this comment
Please say this will be a Podcast???!!!!
Complain about this comment
Although it was fantastic I was expecting so much more, especially with massive big up from radio 1. In the end it felt like a warm up to something that never came. It was a little disappointing.
Complain about this comment
I have to agree with ayeaye01.
It sounded like an overture to a symphony rather than the symphony itself. Would have liked to have heard more interaction between the traditional dubstep rhythms and sounds and the orchestra - thought they were going somewhere with it at one point and then it just sort of died away.
Overall, really disappointing I'm afraid. 10 out of 10 for effort, but only 5 marks for execution.
Complain about this comment
Can only agree Matt with the last comment. I felt as if It was building to something that never materialized. Sounded good but in a film sound track sort of way. The ending sounded like the music they use on the Doctor Who trailers for the BBC. Have they thought about going into film work.

Combining Dub with Classical music isn't that groundbreaking unfortunately. Back in 2008 NZ legends Salmonella Dub produced an outstanding live concert at the Christchurch town hall with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. I'm glad that Radio 1 is bringing it to the masses though, even if it isn't perfect, it so much more interesting than the usual production line pop being constantly churned out at the moment. If you want to see Salmonella Dub and the NZSO in action, check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17a2GaeL52I or get yourself a copy of the album "Feel The Seasons Change"

interesting, but not "mind-blowing".
i'm pretty damn sure this will end us as background music in the apprentice ...
Complain about this comment
Good composition, but where's the dubstep?? There was only a smattering of it in the whole piece. Good to listen to but I expected more.
Complain about this comment
This is awesome but not entirely original. If you liked it you must check out Hybrid.
Complain about this comment
It was pretty good -- but so much hype for something that was barely more than 20 mins, a bit of a missed opportunity, agree with Matt
Complain about this comment
I was there and it was EPIC. Had goosebumps it was so powerful. Great achievement for a first attempt.
Complain about this comment
Genuinely disappointed by this after so much hype. The entire piece seemed completely disjointed with no flow, rhythm and worst of all... no drop!
What exactly was the point of Nero being there? They just stood at the back looking completely lost.
As a piece of modern classical music it was unremarkable, as a dubstep / classical fusion it just didn't work at all. Disappointing on so many levels.
Complain about this comment
Utterly pointless and unimaginative ... was basically an ego based waste of time and money that treated a skilled orchestra like a low end sampler.
If you like this then you have no taste, you're just a consumer and you'll consume anything.
Complain about this comment
this is a fantastic concept. we have similar ideas....

Complain about this comment
not bad but could have been more dubsteppy
Complain about this comment
Can't believe all the haters... particularly deev "
If you like this then you have no taste" I think I'll decide that thanks. Liking it a lot; lots of memories of Jeff Mills - Blue Potential. Will done Radio 1 with this weeks schedule!
Complain about this comment
it's neither dubstep nor classical, it's a COVER of dubstep done by a philharmonic orchestra and it's wonderful =) why should music ever have to be defined by rigid genres anyway, that defeats the purpose of artistic expression. i happen to think classical instruments and dubstep can accompany one another beautifully, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7mWUEjHM5c&feature=related
Complain about this comment
i would really like to say i liked it but i dont..... its 99.5% orchestra and 0.5% dubstep... actually i dont think its even that much dubstep, hardly a collaboration. got a bit bored of it tbh. :-( should have promoted this on classical fm cos would have been more appreciated there.
Complain about this comment
I've got to agree with David. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dubstep, but I have also studied music as a degree, I am open minded about all music and I have a rule myself that if it sounds good, it is good. This however didn't sound that good to me. And it definitely wasn't a clash of genres as others have described it. I was really excited to hear this and was half expecting something similar to Venetian Snares' "Rossz csillag alatt született" album, however I think this was a slight disappointment for me :/ to put it simply, it was boring.
Complain about this comment
I MUST DOWNLOAD THIS MAKE IT A PODCAST OR MP3....... SOMETHING PLZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!
Complain about this comment
EPIC!!!!!!! I would love a download of this!!!!
Complain about this comment
Deev, music is about creativity and boundless interpretation to the listener. I personally couldn't care less about what you made of your interpretation...so long as you don't try and force it on others.
I personally enjoyed this.
Complain about this comment
It's always amusing how some think it's 'not classical enough' and some think it's 'not dubstep enough'.
It is what it is. Just enjoy that it happened.
Complain about this comment
Ok here's my thoughts: Nero focus far too much on lfo manipulation rather than harmonic and melodic content and therefore its harder to transfer it to an orchestra with out loosing something. Now Gully Brook Lane or even Tron by Joker orchestrated would sound much better as it is far more melodic and harmonic. It would also need to keep the slightly stravinskesque darkness and aggressiveness, just with less gaps. Hopefully he will gain some more credit when his LP comes out as its rumoured he has put a few more mainstream aimed tracks amongst all the epic synth work. On a side note I guess it can be hit and miss with these things Roni Size playing at the Colston Hall was epic though maybe get that guy during the arrangements and conducting. This comment is just speculative constructive criticism and trying to find out why I felt a bit bored and agreed to some extent with some of the dismissive comments. I do understand that organising orchestras takes a lot of hard work and a lot of money and I'm glad they experimented with it.
