Tracklistings for this show
One World this week is made up of three very distinct parts - first out of the traps is a special Balkan flavoured mix hosted by Felix from Basement Jaxx and Future World Funk dj Russ Jones . Russ is about to release some great Balkan influenced tunes along with mixes from Basement Jaxx on their own Atlantic Jaxx label. So I took a trip down to the very famous Abbey Road studios where Felix was mastering his next release to find out more.
It was very obvious that both Russ and Felix had a real passion for the music and that they found that the Balkan flavoured tracks really helped a party along. If this outing goes well then it's very likely that they will both collaborate later on further material. For the show itself, Russ has put together a mix (using Ableton) to provide a seamless eastern tinged backdrop. I hope that you'll find something in it for you too.
The second part of our show features a Maida Vale session recorded by the Danish band Spleen United . Fans of this show will recognise the name from our trip to the Eurosonic Festival back in January. It was there that I first saw the band in a dingy venue that was filled with smoke and heavily backlit by red light. The band was great - a kind of cross between the Boards of Canada, Gary Numan and the Cure - there was just something so endearing about the out of tune synths, that I had to arrange a session at the first chance.
The final part of the show this week sees the long awaited return of the record box - believe me we had so much music saved up for this week and couldn't even fit a quarter of it in - However we have three tracks from the brand new Peaches album (Impeach The Bush - which is as explicit as ever !) - expect a One World special from her later on this summer - Also there's new music from Danny Byrd, Justine Electra and much more - Enjoy
