This week's showcase artist

The Knife

Machine made rhythms and curve ball twists from Sweden! Meet The Knife

Showcase will be broadcast on 17/02/05

Made up of brother and sister duo Karin and Olof, The Knife claim their music is nothing more than pop, although it would never get pigeon holed as that in the UK.

Influences? The pair name check Sonic Youth, Kate Bush, Le Tigre and Siouxsie And The Banshees alongside and hard techno, UK grime and Southern US rap. You wouldn't be blamed for thinking that this varied blend of influences makes for some pretty varied music. Exactly.

Their debut album was released in Sweden in 2001 but it didn't grace UK shops until late 2004.

Their current notoriety came from the ever popular Rex The Dog remix of their single 'Heartbeats' which propelled our Swedish heroes into new light both in and out of the ever loving dance community.

In November 2004 The Knife got another exciting assignment. Film director Christina Olofsson heard about The Knife and commissioned them to write music to her new film, 'Hanna med H' (Hanna with an H).

For the showcase, The Knife reworked 3 tracks especially for us, proving that not only are they one of the most interesting artists to come out of Sweden in recent years, but that they have the versatility to move on to bigger and better things - you just watch!
