Breaking out of the bedroom with the Y4K DJs

Distinctive Records DJs Tayo, Freq Nasty and Koma & Bones headed down to Maida Vale for a battle on the decks. While they were waiting to blaze their hot wax, we asked them to part with some advice on making it as a DJ.

"When I was at university I started putting on drum & bass nights and I was the resident."
Tayo:
Everyone's heard this before but it really is the gods honest truth - start your own club, get yourself a room, a bar, anything. Invite your mates down. You're the resident, it's your club you can do what you like.

When I was at university I started putting on drum & bass nights and I was the resident. We had Peshay down, we had Fabio, we had Grooverider, and that was it - I had that on a flyer Fabio, Grooverider, Peshay and Tayo. Just remember that running a night is a great hobby to have, and that's what it has to be - a hobby before it becomes a business.
