Label Of The Month: Rock Action
Print versionPrint version 1/4 NextNext
James Orr Updated: 20/10/03
The label of Glasgow music maestros Mogwai.

The band started the label in 1996/7,  "which was a period in Glasgow where there were a lot of bands who were far more into the idea of putting out their own records rather than wait for a label to sign them up" , explains Craig Hargrave who now manages the label. "Mogwai weren't signed and so they decided to sign themselves putting out their first single 'Tuner/Lower'" .

"...Mogwai weren't signed and so they decided to sign themselves..."
They subsequently put out records for Pilotcan, Trout and licensed acts from America such as Papa M. As Mogwai became more of an entity as a band, there was less time and resources to put into the label and so there was a period of time that the label didn't put any records out.

However, in the past two or three years they have been able to concentrate more on the label and now have full time artists signed up who release material on a regular basis through the label. These include James Orr Complex, Random Number and Part Chimp . All at the label are agreed on the criteria for a Rock Action record. "The actual process of putting records out isn't swayed by fashion or trends it's just purely down to the fact that we love the records!"
