Band: The Pipettes

The Pipettes (pic: Mark Beatty) Updated: 15/03/05
Joining the dots with Brighton's hottest new prospect

Take three girls in polka dot dresses add a boy-backing band (The Cassettes) and catchy doo-wop songs about boys in school uniforms and voila! You have an irresistible combination that simply cannot fail. Pipette ladies Rose, Julia and Riot Becki cosy up on a couch in Maida Vale and reveal all...

"I really couldn't have chosen three more perfect ladies!"
Tell us about The Pipettes
Riot Becki: "It was all Bobby's (guitars) idea. We all knew him individually through friends. He introduced us to each other at this pub in Brighton called The Basketmakers. I think it was a spur of the moment thing really!"
Bobby: "It was something of a scientific experiment - but I really couldn't have chosen three more perfect ladies!"

Why the fascination with polka dots?
Becki: "It's all part of the stage presence. People remember the polka dots! It's a striking pattern and well, it begins with 'P'."
Julia: "It just seemed appropriate to what we do. It's meant to be fun, a bit brash and not too serious!"
